Last week on Sunday the congregation of Trinity Bible Church commissioned the CO:Mission team with specific prayers for us over the next week. This church-wide prayer was especially moving for me. Members of the church interceded for us in such specific ways that I couldn't help but smile at God's provision. I feel confident that our God is at work! Tomorrow we will be officially "sent" from the church for our short term mission trip to Wellington, Colorado.
Tomorrow, Saturday morning, we depart. We will be flying directly from Boston to Denver, where the Rennells will meet us to accompany the team on the drive north. The ten of us will be meeting up with several members of the TBC "Weird Herd" who are driving us, our carry-ons and our seven checked bags full of tools to Logan airport. These wonderful souls are meeting us bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at what my dad would call "Oh Dark Thirty" for luggage loading and pre-travel prayer.
We packed up and took inventory on Wednesday. Over the summer, Trinity Bible Church gathered items for Soaring Wings' "blessing bags", which is a bag that contains items that meet the material needs of those who are living without a roof to call their own. Blessing bags can hold toothpaste and a toothbrush, socks and underwear, among other items. By meeting these needs, the Rennells have found that they can make connections and share their mission and the Gospel. We packed blessing bag items into several pieces of luggage, then packed the tools.

Josh, Chris, Dan, and Jim worked with Ed Rennells on a master tool list to make sure we have what we need for the tasks this week. Several tools are borrowed for the week, and we packed those into checked bags, too. Thanks to generous donations from our support team and TBC, we were able to buy several tools and have them shipped to Colorado. This includes a compressor for the air-powered nail guns that we will use this week. We will be helping frame the addition at Soaring Wings Ministries. For the past year, SWM has literally laid the foundation for this building that we will help construct. Through the fundraising efforts, excavation work and concrete pour, God has shown His care and blessing. You can read more about the building progress on the SWM blog.
So as we head West, please keep us in prayer. We could use prayer for travel mercies, that we can get to the airport and through TSA on time. Lines at security have been notoriously long this summer. Please pray our luggage is handled with care, so that the items that were lovingly donated as well as tools that were borrowed will get to Soaring Wings whole. Please also keep our mindset in your prayers, so that we can use our gifts for God's purposes this week as Peter wrote in 1 Peter 4:10.
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
